Is your dog reluctant to go out for a walk, climb into the car or up the steps? These can be signs that your dog is suffering from arthritis or having mobility issues due to ageing.

Has your dog undergone recent orthopedic surgery? The sooner these issues are addressed through a tailored rehabilitation programme the better the chances are to enhance the quality and the longevity of your dog’s life.

Canine Rehabilitation

Primary Treatments

Our goal is to support you and your dog through their rehabilitation process but to do this it must be sustainable so if you have any concerns or questions please get in touch and we can adapt or modify your pets program to suit.

Canine Therapeutic Rehab

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise is one of the most beneficial forms of rehabilitation. These exercises are targeted to increase range of motion, balance, coordination, weight bearing, increase muscle mass and muscle strength and enable your dog to function optimally.

We use a variety of techniques and equipment including discs, balance boards, therabands and steps.

Canine Central creates and evaluates an individualised exercise plan for your dog. All exercises will be demonstrated clearly and any of your concerns addressed.

To find out how Therapeutic Exercise can help your pet or working dog please contact us at Canine Central.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is a hands on gentle form of bodywork which addresses the fascia or connective tissue that lies beneath the skin and surrounding structures.

Fascia is a major influencer in the role of postural alignment and overall structural and functional integrity.

When the fascia is stretched nerve receptors are stimulated and sensory information is sent to the brain, allowing the body to reset the nervous system and the healing process to begin.

Dogs are very responsive to Bowen and it is common for them to fall asleep after a treatment.

Conditions that Benefit from Bowen therapy:

  • Anxiety/stress and separation disorders.
  • Pre-event: agility, show and trial competitors.
  • Post operative cases.
  • Osteoarthritis.
  • Neurological conditions IVDD.
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia.
  • TMJ.
  • Digestive issues.
  • Degenerative and growth disorders.
Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy

Efficient, drug free and clinically proven, laser therapy is a non-invasive, safe procedure that uses controlled amounts of light to modulate cellular function.

Positive effects of laser therapy include reduced inflammation, improved nerve function, increased circulation and analgesic effects resulting in reduced pain and decreased swelling.

Conditions that benefit from laser therapy:

  • Post operative pain and inflammation (cruciate surgery).
  • Arthritis.
  • Wounds and burns.
  • Tendon and ligament injuries.
  • Chronic pain.
  • Neurological disorders IVDD.
  • Bone regeneration.
  • Skin issues.
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia.

Happy Clients

“Jacqui has been involved with my Scottish Terrier Tammy for several years as she has had an arthrodesis on her front right leg and has had a major cruciate ligament operation on her rear left leg.

For some time Jacqui has visited and treated Tammy with lazer and Bowen treatment with therapeutic exercises which has been beneficial.

Tammy is always happy to see Jacqui and more than happy for her to treat her. I have found Jacqui organised and caring. I can certainly recommend her for her treatments.”

“My Border Collie Nugget injured his left hind knee seriously in April 2022 during a walk when he was just one year old. His operation on 2 May 2022 went well but the damage was more substantial than we had hoped for. In the first month after the op, I tried to confine him as best possible and the vet suggested that some rehab would be very beneficial to get Nugget back to normal. Jacqui took Nugget on as a case study and the progress Nugget made during those weeks was amazing.

Jacqui met with us first just to get to know Nugget and make him feel at ease with his sore leg being handled by her. Jacqui then assessed Nugget and designed an exercise program for us. For each of the prescribed exercises, Jacqui provided me with an online link to a description as well as videos which showed clearly how to do the exercises with Nugget.

We had weekly sessions where Jacqui checked on Nuggets progress and then adjusted the exercises accordingly. Jacqui was always very patient and genuinely caring with Nugget who could at times be somewhat protective of his sore leg.

Nugget also received several Bowen treatments which helped his progress as well and at least in a couple of cases, I noticed clearly an improvement in Nuggets range of movement after the treatment.

There is no doubt in my mind that the rehab program and care Jacqui provided helped Nugget’s recovery immensely and if you see him running today, you would never guess that he ever had an injury let alone such a serious one. I am very thankful to Jacqui for her kind and professional support and I can only very highly recommend Jacqui at Canine Central.”
