About Canine Central
Supporting Dogs, Empowering Owners
What is Canine Rehabilitation?
Dogs, like ourselves, experience injuries, surgeries, pain, osteoarthritis, and aging.
Canine Rehabilitation, much like human rehabilitation, aims to restore, maintain and promote optimal function and quality of life through manual therapies and therapeutic exercise.
It is becoming an increasingly important tool as an adjunct to veterinary medicine following surgical intervention, injuries, chronic pain and neuromuscular conditions. This is achieved through the use of various modalities such as stretching, joint mobilisations, electrotherapy agents, manipulation and therapeutic exercise.
Throughout the process there is a heavy emphasis on physical evaluation and interventions. Approaches include a tailored home exercise based programme, therapeutic modalities, client education and advice and the use of specific equipment.
Most importantly is the value of the relationships between the dog, owner, veterinarian, rehabilitation therapist and other animal health care providers.
Our Mission & Vision
Our Mission is to provide a compassionate, high quality canine rehabilitation service to the dogs in Central Otago to reduce their pain and improve their mobility and function.
To do this our treatments are:
Individualised specifically for your dog based on their condition, age, living environment and needs.
In a comfortable, stress free environment so your dog is as relaxed and as receptive as possible.
Holistic and evidence based.
Designed to empower you, the owner.
About Jacqui
Dog’s have been an integral part of Jacqui’s life . Having been brought up on a Southland sheep farm surrounded by working dogs, she then worked at Gore Vets for eight years as a Veterinary Nurse specialising in orthopedic surgeries and the care of small animals.
For the next twenty two years Jacqui and her husband were farming with a large team of working dogs (and pets). Several of them had surgeries and musculoskeletal issues and it was over this time that she developed a particular interest in the role of animal rehabilitation for post op cruciate surgery, osteoarthritis and improving the life of elderly dogs.
Over the last five years, Jacqui has pursued her long held ambition and become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.
